Reasons for the Decline of the Han Dynasty
Economic Reasons:
Wang Mang Overthrown the Han:
- Rich take advantage poor
- Farmers didn't have enough land to farm enough to sell and feed their families families even
- Large landowners didn't pay taxes
- Less money came into the government so the government made the small farmers pay extra taxes
Wang Mang Overthrown the Han:
- Political instability grew
- From 32B.C. to 9A.D. china had inexperienced emperors replaced each other constantly
- Wang Mang was a Confucius scholar and a member of the court. He decided that a strong ruler was needed and that he was fit to take that role
- He took the imperial title and overthrew the Han and ended the first period of the Han dynasty
- He gave more to the poor and took more from the rich which angered them
